How to Drive at Night

June 29, 2016Shawn CasadevallBlogNo comments

headlight lens restorationDriving at night can be scary and extremely dangerous. In places where there is minimal highway lighting, you can sometimes only see as far as your headlights allow you to. This means that it can be very difficult to see animals, other cars, or obstructions. However, sometimes you have to drive at night. Here are a few tips to help you drive safely at night:

Avoid Nighttime Glare
Try not to look into the lights of oncoming cars by focussing on the white lines on the right side of the road. You can also reduce glare by using the day-night feature on your rearview mirror, and keeping your rearview mirror clean and your wiper fluid full. It is very important that you don’t shine your high-beams while other cars are coming toward you on the road. This common decency will help y ou avoid accidents as well.

Restore Your Headlights
At night, all you have to guide you in the dark are your headlights, so you can’t really afford to have them underperforming in any way. You’d be surprised how many impurities and scratches are actually obstructing your headlights. Having them simply cleaned usually isn’t enough — try ordering a headlight renewal kit, headlight lens restoration or professional headlight restoration kit so that you have maximum visibility on the road.

Drive Slow
If you are uncomfortable driving at night, drive slowly and cautiously. There are few cars on the road, so you shouldn’t feel too much pressure from other drivers. If you are really nervous, pull off at the next possible exit to calm down, or take a hotel room for the night.

The fact is that driving at night is dangerous. States with nighttime restrictions on driving have reported crash reductions of up to 60% during the restricted hours. The night can be a particularly dangerous time for the old and the young, too. Among teen nighttime crashes, 58% happen between 9 p.m. and midnight. And as we age, we have more and more difficulty seeing. A 50 year-old driver may need twice as much light as a 30-year-old.

Whether you invest in a headlight lens restoration or headlight cleaning kit, make sure you’re safe on the road at night.
