Holiday Travel Tips Before You Hit the Road

The holiday season is here, which for many people means long road trips to see their families and loved ones. However, the weather conditions and traffic can make for dangerous driving during this time of year. If you plan to travel by car during the holidays, here are some ways you can make the ride a lot smoother by planning ahead.

• Plan for Daylight. The days are short and the nights are long in many parts of the country this time of year, which means that you need to plan ahead if you want to get where you’re going before sundown. Don’t assume that less traffic means safer roads at night; though it’s true that there tends to be 60% fewer cars driving at night, it’s also when more than 40% of all fatal vehicle accidents occur. Plan out your route and stops ahead of time as much as you are able.
• Headlight Restore. Especially if you plan to do any driving at night or through snowy conditions, your headlights are going to be your most important road ally.
